Hi, I'm Sara! Welcome to my brand new site, Untameable Heart!
Thanks for taking time out of your day to check it out, I truly appreciate your support. I know, you're wondering who in the world I am. You've never heard my name before, whether in Emergent circles or otherwise, and you want to know a bit about this author before you dive right in and purchase her book. Well, I don't have much to enlighten you with. I'm not a big-name preacher, nor am I a famous person with a gigantic platform. I've never been in the limelight of the political arena, never committed a crime, and I've never been attacked by a wild animal. In the publishing world, that pretty much makes you a nobody! Publishers want people with platforms, no matter how that platform was acquired, because publishing is about sales and making lots and lots of money.
I didn't write or publish this book for money. I wrote this book because over the last few years my heart has been broken over the state of the Modern American Church. In 2006, my husband and I embarked on the most frustrating endeavor of "church shopping." With each new church we tried, another Sunday was wasted, and more of our hope was snuffed out. In anger and frustration, I began to pen down the rough first manuscript that eventually evolved into this book. But I was killing my heart in the process. I was becoming more and more cynical, not only about an establishment gone awry, but toward the very thing that should have given life and hope to my heart — my faith.
So I scrapped the first manuscript and started afresh. This time I approached my writing with the hope that the body of Christ can get back to her roots, that she can shake off the baggage of the Modern Era. My goals for writing were threefold: to humbly show my readers what an Emergent, Postmodern Christian looks like, to provide hope for those who think there is no hope for the Church, and to join hands with you as you wrestle with some tough issues of your own spiritual journey.
While I do have a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Religion, I am not a master theologian or pastor. I simply have a passion for the restoration of the Church, and a passion for writing. My hope and prayer is that my writing inspires you on to great things in your own spiritual journey, and gives you hope for a better tomorrow.
I am also an avid lover of fiction. I am currently working on two other, solid manuscripts for novels. When I say solid, I mean that I actually intend to finish them. I've started countless other stories, but as many writers will attest to, it's always easy to start a story. Finishing it is, well, another story.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy many other hobbies. My husband and I love to river-camp, and we live for the rainy season of spring, when the waters of the Arkansas Buffalo River hit flood stage. That's the perfect time to load up the canoe and hit the river. There's nothing like navigating Class III rapids in an Old Town Discovery 169. It's the greatest rush on earth!
Spring is my favorite season, and I absolutely love gardening and landscaping. Working as a landscaper in college truly gave me a passion for growing things and making things beautiful. On spring and summer evenings, it is no surprise to find me walking around my yard, observing and admiring the tender new growth on each and every tree or shrub. While many twenty-somethings are out partying, I would rather look at my plants!
Well, that's me in a nutshell! I would love to hear from you! If you have any questions or comments about Untameable Heart, please feel free to drop me a line. May the peace of the Lord be with you!
